• Operatives and all personnel who require knowledge of the procedures for safe operation and inspection of excavations, tips and stockpiles; **

• People who carry out geotechnical inspections in the workplace.**

Aims

To provide course members with:

• Knowledge and skills required to understand and carry out their responsibilities for the implementation of safe
working procedures in relation to excavations, tips and stockpiles

• The ability to conduct workplace inspections

Content

The course includes:

  • Hazards and definitions

  • Causes of instability in soil slopes

  • Causes of instability in rock slopes

  • Causes of instability in stockpiles

  • Lagoons

  • Rockfall and control measures

  • Geotechnical assessments

  • Inspections and record keeping

  • Working practices

  • Legal compliance

Successful completion of the course leads to a Level 3 Award in Geotechnical Knowledge for Quarrying Supervision
