Quarry managers; Assistant quarry managers who have responsibility for managing and overseeing geotechnical aspects within an extractives and mineral processing environment

Aims

To provide course members with: The information and skills to manage geotechnical aspects of their work in quarries effectively; To take an active role in quarry design; The maintenance of a safe geotechnical environment throughout the life of a quarry

The course includes:

  • Hazards and definitions
  • Causes of instability in soil slopes
  • Causes of instability in rock slopes
  • Rockfall and control measures
  • Geotechnical assessments
  • Inspections and record keeping
  • Working practices
  • Legal compliance

Duration and Delivery Options

Day 1: Based in a training room. Short lectures; Demonstrations; Group discussions; Case studies; Practical instruction Day 2: On-site inspection. Members undertake 2 multiple‚Äźchoice assessments and two practical written tests. Successful completion of the course leads to a Level 4 Award in Geotechnical Knowledge for Quarrying Management (QCF)
