Who should attend?

For people who: Need to understand how accidents are caused and how they can be prevented Need working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Quarry Regulations 1999


To provide course members with: An increased awareness of general health and safety management; The confidence to communicate effectively with others on safety issues; The knowledge and skills to supervise safety in quarries and operational environments; The confidence in handling difficult people and dealing with conflict and tricky situations; To create and promote worker engagement to improve safety in the workplace; Be able to identify and correct unsafe behaviours; The course provides some of the underpinning health and safety knowledge for the QCF in Health, Safety and Environmental Management in the Extractive and Mineral Processing Industries


The course includes:

  • The role of the supervisor in accident prevention and investigation

  • Overview of health and safety legislation

  • Health and safety management

  • Safety inspections

  • Vehicle safety in quarries & extractives environment

  • Controlling risks

  • Permit to work and safe systems of work

  • Behavioural safety awareness and engaging with the workforce

  • Core skills such as communication, managing conflict, influencing, coaching and mentoring

Duration and Delivery Options

Based in a training room the day is packed full of a number of interactive activities that are combined with a number of blended learning techniques leading to an extremely thought provoking and highly stimulating day. It tackles a number of core communication skills which will help an individual become more confident and effective in the workplace.
