Who should attend?

For people who:

• Are responsible for or interested in the application of the Regulations

• Need a basic introduction to the Regulations and Approved Code of Practice


To provide course members with:

• Understand the meaning of the terms Regulations, Approved Code of Practise (ACOP) and Guidance and their legal status

• Understand and become familiar with the structure of the Regulations, the ACOP in respect of inspections at surface mineral operations or plants

• Be able to navigate the Regulations and ACOP in detail and be able to find and understand the information required within the quarrying and extracting environment


The course includes (but can vary accordingly):

  • The structure of the regulations and supporting information

  • Understanding of the interaction between the Health and Safety at Work Act and secondary legislation

  • Navigating the Quarries Regulations

  • Interpretation and general matters

  • Health and safety management

  • Risk control

  • Explosives

  • Excavations and tips

  • Duties of employers and participation and duties of persons at work

  • Repeals, modifications and revocations

Duration and Delivery Options

Based in a training room the day is packed full with a number of interactive activities that are combined with blended learning techniques, leading to an extremely thought-provoking and highly stimulating day. It tackles a number of core communication skills, helping an individual become more confident and effective in the workplace.
