Description
A 2-day course, there is a mixture of taught time, group exercises and field work. Study units include: Day 1 • Introduction to the Legislation and Quarry Regulations 1999 relevant to clay quarries • Health and safety documentation • Training and competence • Management structure • Introducing rules and schemes • Workplace inspections • Explosives and shot-firing • Health surveillance • Vehicle safety in clay quarries & extractives environment Day 2 • Hazards and definitions • Causes of instability in soil slopes • Causes of instability in rock slopes • Causes of instability in stockpiles • Lagoons • Rockfall and control measures • Geotechnical appraisals and assessments • Inspections and record keeping • Working practices • Legal compliance
Who Should Attend?
It is compulsory for designated Quarry Managers and deputies for every active quarry. Factory/Quarry Managers, their quarry deputies and other managers (e.g. Lands and Properties), who are holding Section. 8.1c & 8.1d responsibility for day-to-day quarry operations.
Aims
It provides a stepping-stone towards competence for anyone involved in Quarry Management. Different quarry locations are provided by several member companies to accommodate different types of clay quarrying activities.
