Description
This three‑day course provides a strong foundation in the principles, processes, and controls involved in quarry blasting operations. It is designed for individuals who have responsibility for overseeing or interacting with blasting activities on site, but who are not appointed as the Explosives Supervisor.

Delegates will develop the knowledge needed to understand blasting practices, interpret blasting documentation, and appropriately challenge blasting specifications where required.

Final approval, authorisation, and sign‑off of any blast must always be completed by a competent person who has undertaken further specialist training and/or formal competence assessment.
Who Should Attend?
The course is intended for supervisors, managers, and other personnel who have operational responsibility for blasting activities but who are not appointed as the Explosives Supervisor under the Quarries Regulations 1999, Regulation 25(1)(b).

It is particularly suitable for those who need to understand and scrutinise blasting operations as part of their management role.
Aims
The course aims to provide delegates with:
  • A foundation‑level understanding of blasting processes, hazards, and controls.
  • The knowledge required to interpret, question, and challenge blasting specifications to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • An appreciation of the management responsibilities associated with blasting activities at a quarry.
  • Sufficient underpinning knowledge to support progression toward the MPQC Level 6 Award in Managing Quarry Drilling and Blasting (VQ), should delegates wish to pursue further competence development.
  • Completion of this course does not qualify a delegate to design, approve, or sign off blasting operations.
