Industry collaboration drives forward two new Enhanced CPC Training Courses for the Mineral Products Sector

MP Skills and MPA Transport Committee led working group create new Truck Mixer Awareness for Road Hauliers and Bulk Tanker Awareness courses

Two new courses have been created and independently assessed and approved by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) following collaboration between the Mineral Products Association (MPA) Transport Committee and training provider MP Skills.

The new Truck Mixer Awareness for Road Hauliers and Bulk Tanker Awareness courses, aim to enhance the competence of drivers and operators in the transport and mineral products industries.

These Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) accredited courses have been co-designed with input from industry experts, transport managers, and drivers who participated in pilot programs, to offer a practical and tailored learning experience.

Andy Cox, Industry Trainer and Assessor, MP Skills, who helped frame the new courses, said, “We began the consultation aware of the need for sector specific CPC courses to meet today’s operational and safety, regulatory standards and legal compliance. The process was rigorous and collaborative with the involvement of stakeholders including Drivers and Transport Managers being invaluable.”

The new courses feature real-world case studies and incident findings to provide delegates with practical insights into operational challenges. These examples will help to reinforce the importance of safety, risk awareness, and best practices in the field. They are designed to reinforce the awareness of drivers and operators, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to operate safely and efficiently in high-risk environments.

Dave Hart, Chair of the MPA Transport Committee said, “The Transport Committee aims to effect positive change and update best practice when needed. These courses impact many drivers in our sector, and it is vital that high standards are met to ensure consistency across the country in terms of driver behaviours.”

Neil Peacock, General Manager, MP Skills said, “This is a proud example of the significant efforts by MP Skills and its partners to use collaboration to improve safety, training standards, and regulatory compliance.  I’d like to give special thanks to Holcim, Simon Gibson and Lomas Transport who gifted us their tanker training material as a valuable start point for us. The results will instil in professional Drivers a culture of responsibility and resilience.”

The Transport Committee and MP Skills are now working on another CPC course for Tipper Awareness.

Both courses will be available to industry from October, with full details available online at www.mpskills.co.uk
