01 – Overview

What is the Plant Scheme?

The MPQC Plant Operator scheme is designed for plant operators and contractors working in the extractives industry. With safety in mind, the purpose of the scheme is to ensure individuals are competent and fully trained in operating machinery and specific item(s) of plant. All of our plant assessments and training are carried out by industry qualified assessors, with tailored on-site delivery at the operators location.

The plant scheme is supported by key stakeholders such as the Mineral Products Association (MPA), the British Aggregates Association (BAA), the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) and the Institute of Asphalt Technology (IAT).

Where do I start?

No matter the level of experience, we train site operators on many items of plant and machinery, providing them with the confidence that leads them to their plant assessment.

The Red Operator Card can be obtained by being assessed on the relevant plant in the workplace. The card becomes valid for 2 years.

The Blue Operator Card can be obtained by completing one of our vocational qualifications (VQ’s). Additional Plant categories can also be added to the card through assessments. The card is valid for 5 years and is renewable by plant assessment.
